Despite a strong economy, thousands of people in our region continue to struggle to feed themselves. Recently, WUCF TV’s NewsNight program discussed the work being done to help those experiencing food insecurity. Watch the full episode below.
The program discussed how traditional food distribution efforts by Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida are helping individuals, families, and seniors put food on their tables.
The program also looks at the role local schools play in tackling food deserts, where more than 1/3 of residents in a community live more than one mile from a traditional supermarket. Second Harvest’s School Market program is one way to provide increased access and awareness to resources for students.
