One Month Away from Hunger Action Month

Author: Jen Landress

Each September people across America lend their voices to the fight against hunger by participating in Hunger Action Month. Hunger Action Month encourages people to learn about hunger in their community and help educate others as well.

This year we are asking people to “Speak out Against Hunger” in September. You might ask, why speak out? The answer is simple: because over 731,900 people received food assistance from Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida last year. These are our friends, neighbors, and co-workers.

Now you may ask, how can I speak out? Below are a few ways we’re be asking you to “Speak out Against Hunger” this September:

•    Find Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida and ‘like’ us on Facebook.
•    Go Orange on September 6th by wearing orange. Orange is the color for hunger relief.
•    Advocate by sending a personal postcard to your local representative through Feeding America’s Facebook application. (stay tuned for more details to come)
•    Share a hunger fact or our “Hungry Kate: The Girl with a Belly Ache” video with your friends on Facebook

As September draws closer we’ll reveal more details about Hunger Action Month as well as our “30 Ways in 30 Days” calendar.

This calendar will give you one thing to do each day to help fight hunger in Central Florida! Hunger Action Month events as well as the “30 Ways in 30 Days” calendar will be posted on CFLhungeraction.org. Thank you so much for fighting hunger this September!
